How we contribute to a sustainable land

Our farm partner, Jardines de San Nicolás, opens its doors to visitors who are on bicycle tours. Children, teenagers, and adults pedal through fields bursting with flowers and enjoy learning about the region’s floriculture industry.

More than 10 years ago, Alirio Ramírez, manager of Jardines de San Nicolás, and Ana María Henao, who at the time was the director of tourism in La Ceja, Antioquia, joined efforts to create a project that would develop floriculture as the main economic activity in the region, with bicycles, which are part of the cultural heritage of the area, incorporated into the initiative.

Their joint efforts resulted in activities, such as conferences and cultural projects, as well as public policies that taught important lessons at the local level and in the areas that were popular for cycling.

The Zona Bici company emerged as one of their achievements, bringing to life the dream of having an organization to focus on the promotion and adoption of healthy lifestyles, people’s well-being, and care for the land.

Thanks to this project, as well as to other efforts to raise awareness about floriculture, Jardines de San Nicolás opened its doors to the public, allowing visitors to experience everything it has to offer via an alliance with the company and Comfama, a family compensation fund. A commitment was made to work jointly with the flower farm’s employees and management to help others fall in love with Colombian floriculture and understand its significance.

Employees and managers showcased their work and shared their expertise with visitors. People of all ages can visit the farm and learn about flowers destined for export and how they are grown, acquiring not only social and cultural skills, but also life skills while enjoying a ride on a bicycle, the ultimate sustainable mode of transportation.

Today, the people who work at Jardines de San Nicolás are proud to show off their work to those who, in awe as they visit the farm, learn how flowers are planted and cared for, becoming inspired to set the goal of contributing to a sustainable land.

INDUSTRY NEWS

Sweetest Day – October 15

Why do we celebrate Sweetest Day?

It’s almost time for the annual Midwest-started holiday, Sweetest Day, a chance to let the people in your life know that you appreciate them.

COLOMBIA … MORE THAN FLOWERS

The powerful women behind the flowers

Bridal bouquets, Mother’s Day surprises, Valentine’s gifts… it’s not hard to see how the loveliest flowers in the world end up in the hands of women. And if these happen to be Colombian grown, then we can confirm that they’ve been in the care of women from the beginning.
